BRONX, NY—M&T Bank has opened its first branch location in the Bronx, N.Y., giving bank customers retail branch access across all five of New York City’s boroughs.
The bank completed extensive renovations to an existing 1,500-square-foot retail storefront at 2460 Grand Concourse, right next to an entry for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Fordham Road subway station, and officially opened for business May 1.
“We look forward to being a part of this community and building deeper relationships with neighborhood residents, small businesses and not-for-profit organizations. While this is our first branch in the Bronx, M&T Bank has a 160-year history in New York State and we will bring our approach to community-focused banking into this neighborhood,” said Rick Reustle, M&T’s Administrative Vice President for Retail Banking in New York City and Long Island.
The branch will be operated by an experienced M&T staff, led by Branch Manager Bhopal Sewpersaud and will be capable of serving customers speaking both English and Spanish. The branch also plans to partner with the Bronx-based Ariva to provide access to certain financial literacy materials.
M&T Bank now operates 18 branches in New York City’s boroughs, and ranks as the third largest U.S. Small Business Administration lender out of the SBA’s NY City District, based on total number of loans made last year through the SBA’s most popular loan program.
