M&T Bank Employee Campaign for United Way of Buffalo and Erie County tops $1 million

Buffalo, N.Y. –– The United Way of Buffalo and Erie County (“UWBEC”) will receive $1,007,833 from M&T Bank and its employees to support charitable organizations across the community, marking the first time the company’s annual campaign has cracked the $1 million mark.

“The results of this United Way campaign will have a very real and direct impact on Western New York, thanks to the efforts of all our employees who have once again come together to support their local community,” said M&T Bank Vice Chairman Richard Gold.

M&T employs more than 6,800 people in Erie County and close to 7,000 across Western New York. The campaign raised $782,833 in employee donations and was augmented by a $225,000 grant from the M&T Charitable Foundation.

“This is one of the largest employee-led donation campaigns in our organization’s history and M&T also provides the largest cohort of local United Way volunteers throughout the year,” said UWBEC President and CEO, Michael Weiner. “M&T Bank has been one of our most consistent supporters throughout our 100-year history and our community has benefitted enormously from both the bank’s financial contributions and thousands of annual volunteer hours.”

Donations directed to the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County are allocated to local not-for-profit organizations through a competitive grant process, with a particular focus on organizations achieving outcomes in the fields of education, health and wellness, and financial stability.
