Head of Retail Banking
Rich McCarthy leads the strategic direction and oversees the customer experience and risk management infrastructure for M&T’s Retail Banking business.
His career began as a branch banking intern and then a loan analyst in Commercial Banking. He transitioned into the branch network to obtain a customer facing role as a business development officer. Since then, he has held leadership roles in Digital and Telephone Banking, Consumer Products, Customer Experience, and Network Planning.
Rich is active in the community through his work with the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County and the Episcopal Church Home Foundation. He serves on the board of directors for the New York Bankers Association and is a member of the Executive Asset Liability Committee.
Rich holds an MBA and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo and is a graduate of the Consumer Bankers Association’s Executive Banking School.
