Detra is always pursuing new ways to connect with clients and help them achieve their goals.
The American Bankers Association (ABA) announced today it has recognized Detra Miller, Administrative Vice President at M&T Bank and Minority Owned Business Banking Manager, with its George Bailey Distinguished Service Award.
Now in its sixth year, the ABA’s George Bailey Distinguished Service Award honors a non-CEO bank employee who demonstrates outstanding initiative, commitment to their customers and community, and the ability to inspire others. Miller received the award during the ABA’s annual conference held virtually Oct. 20.
Miller, who started M&T’s Minority Business Banking team in Baltimore in June 2019, is the first M&T employee to win the banking industry association’s top honor for community service.
This marks the sixth award Miller has received since November 2019, when she was named one of the Baltimore Business Journal’s 40 Under 40. Earlier this year, Miller also was recognized by American Banker as an emerging leader in its Most Powerful Women in Banking publication.
“It has been phenomenal to be recognized for the work my team and I have done since the minority and women-owned banking group launched in mid-2019,” Miller said. “I am fortunate to have colleagues who saw value and offered the support to bring my ideas to fruition. I would not have been able to accomplish this success without my team members, whose dedication and passion have helped us differentiate our customer experience and lift up the communities we serve.”
In addition to her most recent honor from the ABA, Miller has received the following awards in the past year:
- Baltimore Business Journal 40 Under 40
- Greater Baltimore Committee Bridging the Gap Achievement Award for Mentorship
- Maryland Minority Contractors Association Honoree
- American Banker Most Powerful Women in Banking: Next
- The Daily Record: Leading Women
With her team, Miller engages minority business owners through proactive and intentional outreach. Through these efforts, Miller’s team has created an ecosystem for these businesses to support and guide them in good times and bad. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Miller’s team facilitated $4.6 million in Paycheck Protection Program lending for 51 business banking customers in Greater Baltimore.
“Detra is always pursuing new ways to connect with clients and help them achieve their goals,” said Eleni Monios, M&T Bank Group Vice President and Market Manager for Business and Professional Banking in Greater Baltimore. “She is an invaluable asset and deserves recognition for her hard work and dedication.”
Miller, a Towson University alumna, currently lives in Rosedale, Md., with her family. She sits on the foundation board of The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region and is a member of the steering committee for the Cherry Hill neighborhood transformation in Baltimore.
