M&T Bank Contributes $125,000 to Organizations in Greater Philadelphia to Support Those Affected by COVID-19

Philadelphia, PA; April 13, 2020 — M&T Bank is contributing $125,000 to three organizations to support residents in the greater Philadelphia area affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During this extraordinary time, it is important we support those in our communities who need our help the most,” said Bernie Shields, M&T’s Regional President for the Philadelphia and South Jersey regions. “As a community bank, we understand the importance of assisting the most vulnerable during times of uncertainty and crisis. Through partnerships with nonprofits in the region, we hope to mitigate the effect COVID-19 has had in the greater Philadelphia area.”

Funding from M&T Bank’s Charitable Foundation is being directed to the following organizations:

PHL COVID-19 Fund: M&T will provide $50,000 in funding to support the COVID-19 relief efforts of the Philadelphia Foundation and United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. The PHL COVID-19 Fund will distribute aid to organizations that have an established record of helping at-risk groups including seniors, people with disabilities, the economically disadvantaged, and homeless in Philadelphia and its surrounding counties.

Department of Commerce and Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC): Developed to spur investment, support business growth, and foster developments that create jobs and revitalize neighborhoods, PIDC has pledged its support to Philadelphia’s small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. M&T’s contribution of $50,000 to the organization will provide relief to small businesses in order to help them survive the crisis, retain employees, avoid predatory lending, and maintain the provision of goods and services for the city’s residents.

Women’s Way: As part of its mission to support the advancement of women, girls, and gender equality, Women’s Way has established a fund that will provide up to two years of general operational support to smaller nonprofits with an established track record of serving women and their families impacted by COVID-19. The bank has contributed $25,000 to support this fund.

In addition, M&T Bank approved the reallocation of $12,500 in prior grant funding to West Chester University to support the school’s student relief fund.

M&T Bank also contributed an additional $125,000 to nonprofit organizations supporting those affected by the pandemic in Delaware, including Delaware Community Foundation, United Way of Delaware and the Lower Eastern Shore, and Food Bank of Delaware.

As part of the collaborative effort to help meet the food needs of students, their families and the city’s senior citizens, M&T is encouraging its employees to consider making a personal donation to the Food Bank of South Jersey, Chester County Food Bank, or a nonprofit serving their county.

The bank plans to identify volunteer opportunities for M&T employees after restrictions on social distancing have been lifted.
