Georgia Avenue branch marks remodel with week-long event
WASHINGTON, D.C.— The public is invited to bring canned goods and other non-perishable food items to the newly remodeled M&T branch at 6434 Georgia Avenue, NW, from Monday, Jan. 22 through Saturday, Jan. 27. The food items will be donated to Shepherd’s Table, a local organization that provides meals, social services, medical support, clothing, and other assistance to those experiencing homelessness. The branch recently underwent a full interior overhaul. M&T Bank has occupied the building since it acquired Allfirst Bank in 2003.
Information about M&T’s services will be available, and also snacks and contests with prizes while supplies last.
“This week serves as an opportunity to reintroduce M&T to the community, and to show our appreciation for our customers,” said M&T Bank Branch Manager Melody Gatsi. “We pride ourselves on being a community bank, so we thought this would also be great time to highlight our relationship with Shepherd’s Table, and enlist the public’s help in supporting them.”
From the new Walmart Supercenter, to the planned redevelopment of the Walter Reed campus just north of the branch, over the past five years, the area of the Georgia Avenue corridor near the branch has been undergoing a revitalization.
“This is really an exciting time for the Brightwood area of the District and we’re proud to be a part of it,” said Peter Black, M&T Bank Washington Regional President. “Our decision to refurbish our Georgia Avenue branch is part of our overall commitment to reinvesting in the communities we serve.”
“We are already receiving positive feedback about the redesign. We believe that it will help us better serve our long-time customers, and become a resource for new residences as the community grows,” said Gatsi.
