Pittston, PA. -- M&T Bank  announced the donation of its former branch on Main Street to the City of Pittston for use by Luzerne County Community College (LCCC). M&T marked the event with a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday, October 26.
 
Local M&T Bank officials including Regional President Phil Johnson, joined with Pennsylvania State Senator John T. Yudichak and LCCC President Thomas Leary to break ground on the upcoming Luzerne County Community College M&T Bank Educational Center.
 
The building was donated by the bank’s Northern Pennsylvania region through the Pennsylvania Neighborhood Assistance Program at no cost to the City.  The City is leasing the building to LCCC.
 
“It’s important for the bank to help the growth of our local communities by supporting economic development, strong neighborhoods and quality education,” says Johnson. “We are happy to donate this branch to help further the revitalization of Pittston’s downtown and offer a convenient option for LCCC students to attend classes.”
 
The new space will offer classroom and study space for LCCC students and is anticipated to increase Pittston’s downtown economic activity with 300-500 students per day entering downtown and using the building.
 
“Establishing our new Pittston Center furthers Luzerne County Community College’s partnership with the community and our mission to offer affordable and accessible higher education,” says Thomas P. Leary, president, LCCC.  “We are proud to be a part of the revitalization project for the City of Pittston and to contribute to the economic development of the area.”
 
 
The Luzerne County Community College M&T Bank Educational Center is anticipated to open in Fall of 2018.
