BUFFALO, N.Y., Aug. 21, 2017 -- M&T Bank Corporation (NYSE: MTB) ("M&T") announced the appointment of Laura P. O'Hara as Senior Vice President and General Counsel, effective August 21, 2017. She will report to Richard S. Gold, M&T Vice Chairman, and will be based in Buffalo, N.Y.

O'Hara joins M&T with more than 30 years of litigation, regulatory compliance and risk management experience, most recently for Santander Bank, where she served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel from 2015 to 2017.   At Santander, she was responsible for legal support for all lines of business as well as Risk Management, Compliance, Regulatory and Human Resources.

Prior to Santander, O'Hara was Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Consumer and Commercial Banking for Royal Bank of Scotland, RBS Citizens (RBS) from 2011 to 2015. There she led Legal support for all Consumer and Commercial lines of business including: Retail Banking, Mortgage, Broker Dealer, Business Banking, Credit Card, Auto Lending, Student Lending as well as Servicing and Operations for those businesses.

She joined J.P. Morgan Chase and Company in 1991 and held various senior level positions responsible for Legal, Compliance, Risk Management, Mergers and Acquisitions and Regulatory affairs. She served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chase Home Lending, prior to her departure from the company in 2011.
