M&T Funds Scholarship at Richard Bland College of William & Mary

M&T Bank and Richard Bland College of William & Mary have announced the creation of an M&T endowed scholarship to support area students. Applicants to the M&T Scholars at Richard Bland College program will be selected on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

“M&T Bank is proud to support deserving students at Richard Bland College of William & Mary as they endeavor to obtain higher education," said Cecilia Hodges, President of M&T Bank’s Central Virginia region. “We believe quality education is the cornerstone of strong communities. Creating the M&T scholarship at Richard Bland College will provide opportunities for students from low to moderate-income households to achieve their highest potential. “

Richard Bland College awards about $150,000 in scholarships annually, and the need has consistently grown in recent years, according to President Debbie L. Sydow. “When community partners like M&T Bank step up to provide financial support to deserving students, the impact to families and the region is huge,” said. “While Richard Bland College is one of the most affordable in Virginia, many students would not have the opportunity to obtain a college degree without scholarships made possible by private sector businesses like M&T Bank.”

To qualify for the M&T Bank Scholarship, first or second year students must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and reside in Richmond, Henrico, Hanover, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Prince George or Petersburg.
