M&T Sponsoring Several Components of Artscape and the Sondheim Prize, Helping to Boost the Visibility and Recognition of Artists in the Greater Baltimore Region
M&T Bank is pleased to provide art lovers with an extended opportunity to enjoy Baltimore’s talented artists before, during and after the Artscape festival weekend.
The Artscape Gallery Network features exhibitions in galleries throughout the Baltimore area that highlight the work of applicants for the 2015
Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize.
The Sondheim Prize, which awards a $25,000 prize to a visual artist living and working in the region, is given in conjunction with
Artscape, the largest free arts festival in America.
“Our partnership with M&T Bank has been wonderful. They helped us develop the Gallery Network, which extends the reach and impact of the Sondheim Prize. It benefits our many art galleries and highlights the rich art scene in Baltimore and throughout the region,” said Bill Gilmore, Executive Director, of Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (
BOPA), the nonprofit organization that produces Artscape and the Sondheim Prize.
Of more than 400 artists who submitted their work for consideration, 49 semi-finalists were selected. Their work will be on display at Artscape, which takes place from July 17-19. The exhibition, sponsored by M&T Bank, will run through August 2 at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Seven finalists were selected this year and their work is on exhibition at the
Baltimore Museum of Art. The winner of the Sondheim Prize will be announced on July 11 at 7 p.m. at the Baltimore Museum of Art. In recognition of their outstanding accomplishments, each of the remaining finalists will receive a $2,500 award from M&T Bank.
“The arts strengthen our community and enhance our quality of life. That’s why support of the arts is an essential part of M&T’s commitment to the communities we serve,” said Jack Lewin III, Administrative VP for the M&T Healthcare Banking Group. Lewin serves on the board of BOPA.
