BUFFALO, NY.—In his annual message to shareholders, M&T Bank Chairman and CEO Robert G. Wilmers says that bankers must rebuild trust and demonstrate traditional leadership in order to support sustainable economic growth. The full text of Wilmers’ message is available here.
Since 1983, Wilmers has led Buffalo, N.Y.-based M&T Bank, one of the top 20 independent commercial bank holding companies in the nation, with $78 billion in assets and more than 750 branch offices. In December, he was named “Banker of the Year” by American Banker newspaper. His last shareholder letter became the subject of a New York Times column by Joe Nocera entitled “The Good Banker.”
